Scanning Field to Finish Training Course



After completing the course the students will be able to:

  • Evaluate the scan site
  • Setup hardware
  • Place registration targets
  • Collect scan data from multiple positions
  • Post process scans in Faro Scene
    • Load files
    • Run default filters
    • Use Auto Detection tool to mark targets and place scans
    • Manually identify, mark and name objects (Target Spheres, Paper Targets.)
    • Register data and evaluate refine fit
    • Export data to downstream application
  • Use the pointclouds in such downstream application, be they AutoCAD (with Kubit), Civil 3D, Navisworks, Revit or Inventor.

Day 1 Training

  • Discovery

  • Recommendations report on workflow and software needed to meet project deliverables

Day 2 Training

  • Introduction
  • Laser Scanning Software Family
  • FARO Focus 3D X330 Laser Scanner
  • Scanning Theory & Technology
  • Scanner Setup
  • Software Installation & Licensing
  • User Interface of Scanner Touch Screen
  • Setting Up the Scan Site, which is the interior of the training lab.
  • Importing scans into FARO Scene

Day 3 Training

Using FARO Scene:

  • Options
  • Scan ViewsRegistration, Manual and Automatic
  • Object Creation
  • Filtering & Cleanup

Day 4 Training

Training on either AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Inventor, Revit, Kubit, Navisworks or other software based on discovery/recommendation which may include some of the following:

  • Creating surfaces in Civil 3D
  • Using Kubit for manipulating and slicing pointclouds
  • Object creation within Kubit
  • Clash detection within Kubit
  • Planar View 3D input into AutoCAD
  • Model Building inside of Revit based on pointclouds
  • Importing into Navisworks and clash detection
  • Modeling inside of Inventor

Note: Scanning will take place in a controlled environment, such as clients boardroom, or on-site at client.
