Steve Wesseling

Sales Representative - Winnipeg

What does your role comprise of at Cansel?

I’m the wide format account manager for Manitoba and north western Ontario. I cover both the technical and graphics markets so bond paper in the graphics business. I sell and support all of the equipment consumables. I also oversee some of the offset printing customers in Winnipeg as their local resource to order products.

What about your job makes you want jump out of bed?

I’d have to say probably the people, both the customer side and the Cansel team members. Our office in Winnipeg is a small staff currently but we work well together and we provide great service to our customers. My customers’ needs are always changing and I enjoy adapting to their needs. I find it fun to work with them and provide the main product for their customers.

How long have you been at Cansel?

About 3 years.

What makes for a great day at work?

I’d have to say, again, going back to the whole customer thing, I have to say working with customers. I’m a people person and I enjoy educating customers and providing them with options for media, equipment and solving maybe some of their problems that they haven’t been able to figure out. I like to challenge myself and that’s a great way to spend the day, for sure.

If you were to recommend Cansel to your best friend, what would you say?

I’d like to say it’s flexible, it’s a flexible work environment but it’s challenging, so as a sales rep, all of our sales reps have targets to strive for, some months are better than others. The company has a good support structure and I think for me personally, I know I can always call someone to get some assistance when I need whether it be for product recommendation, order placement, assistance with some equipment recommendations, things like that. It’s handy to have that resource available to you.

Describe yourself in one word.

Driven.

What are you passionate about?

I love golf, I’m super passionate about golf, I have been since I was like 8 years old. I like to play as much as time allows. Also, about 6 months ago, I started taking up like competition barbecue smoking, so that’s quickly becoming a passion. Everything I do whether it be hobby related or whatever, I just try to be the best that I can be at it.

What's your idea of a great vacation?

Somewhere hot near a golf course. Good food, drinks, relaxing. Having to not think about much.

Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

I’d probably have to say my wife. She’s my best friend and I love her to death, so probably her.

Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?

South America. [Anywhere in particular?] Not really, like pretty much anywhere, I’ve never been to South America, there’s nowhere specific though that I would want to go. Just that area of the world I’ve never been to.

If you were to create a piece of art, what would the subject be?

I don’t know if it’s a subject, but probably abstract. I like loud colours and making people think. I don’t know if abstract is a subject.

How would your friends describe you?

Caring, driven, I know some of them would probably say versatile, I’d like to think that they would say that I have many things that I’m good at and always try to be the best at them but I know some things I fall short on. It just takes more practice but that’s probably what I would guess they would say. It’s hard to tell really.
