Trimble TSC510 & TSC710 Controller Advisory
Step 1: Data Backup (Crucial)
A factory reset will erase all data from the device's internal storage.
- Connect your controller to a PC or use a cloud service. You can also use a USB stick.
- Copy the entire Trimble Data Folder.
- Copy all personal files you may desire to keep.
- Important: Ensure you know the Google account credentials (email and password) associated with the device. You will need them to complete the setup after the reset.
- Trimble recommends that you remove the work profile if you have installed Work accounts, remove all personal accounts from the device, and remove device security BEFORE you reset the device to factory settings.
- Open Settings/ Passwords & accounts.
- If Personal and Work tabs are shown, select the Work tab, scroll down and tap Remove work profile. The Work tab will disappear.
- Tap on each account shown and Remove the accounts (this will require you to enter your PIN and/or Password).
- Select Settings / Security & privacy / Device unlock.
- Tap on the screen lock and select None.
Step 2: Factory Reset Procedure
Follow these exact steps on your controller:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap System.
- Tap Reset options.
- Select Erase all data (factory reset).
- Tap the Erase all data button at the bottom of the screen.
- Confirm by tapping Erase all data again.
The device will restart. This process may take several minutes.
Step 3: Reconfiguration
Once the restart is complete:
- Follow the on-screen prompts for the initial setup (Language, Wi-Fi, Google Account).
- Re-install your Trimble applications (Trimble Access, TerraFlex, etc.) using Trimble Installation Manager application.
- Restore your data backed up in Step 1.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is this necessary?
A software issue can cause the device to randomly enter "Recovery Mode" without warning. This blocks access to the system and can lead to data loss while working in the field. This procedure stabilizes the system to prevent this risk.
Will there be a simpler solution?
Yes. Trimble is currently developing a global Operating System (OS) update that will be deployed automatically. This update will permanently fix the root cause. Until then, this manual factory reset is the only effective preventative measure.
What if my device is already stuck in "Recovery Mode"?
If you see a black screen with red or blue text titled "Android Recovery," do not attempt to force a restart. Please contact our technical support team immediately for assistance.
